This is where my new creative endeavour started: an unassuming punchline about working through writer’s block! But then something magical happened: I tried the characters out.

After making a few of these, and I realized they were a TON of fun to make, I decided that maybe I should make a separate instagram account just for them (being in black and white, they definitely are a different aesthetic than my normal GoGoMachRocketSheep comic strips, so I thought it best to separate it out ).

These are really fun to draw for a few reasons. First, the art style is FAR simplified, which means that I am not as concerned as the art looking “right” as I am with the art looking entertaining. For a guy like me, who only has about an hour to draw a comic strip (and even that’s really pushing it), it’s a breath of fresh air to have art that I’m happy with that takes like ten minutes to make. Am I gonna win any Eisners? Ha! no. My goal is always just to get people to laugh. But it’s a fun exercise in re-thinking my comics making process, and I’m really enjoying it.

The other reason I wanted to make a new comic strip is because I’m experimenting around with the idea of a more sitcom style base to write from… The advantage is that comic strips aren’t limited to my thoughts on stuff I experience in the day, or on funny things that happen to me, and therefore I’ll be able to flex my writing muscle a little bit. I’ve also been working on a choose-your-own-adventure scifi graphic novel, but it’s sort of stalled out because of the sheer scope of it and the fact that I basically need 5 hours of uninterrupted silence just to be able to keep it all straight in my head (and as I mentioned earlier, I really only get about an hour of time to focus on creative endeavours).
So anyways, if you’re on instagram, follow “JeremyLOVESAmanda” to get these little morsels delivered to your feed in REAL TIME! Or just keep checking back here (or subscribe to the newsletter by ‘following’ the website at the bottom right hand corner of this page) and I’ll put everything I’ve worked on this week in this newsletter format.
Thanks so much for reading! Until next week: keep fit and have fun!
