For this week’s LET’S DRAW, I really wanted to challenge myself! I’ve always been a massive fan of Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson. His comics were so influential on me (and basically everybody!) but what I love the most are his water colour paintings that he’d make for the collection covers and short stories. There’s always so much action/expression/character in those illustrations! Part of the reason I do ‘hard mode’ in these videos is because I want to be challenging myself (at least once a week) to do some art I wouldn’t normally do, and so I thought I’d take a crack at one of the covers. and I’m really happy with how it came out:

Obviously, my water colour skills are no where near as polished as Bill Watterson’s, but I really like how this came out. If you don’t wanna watch the full art video, click here to check out a time-lapse of just this painting!

Other than that, I was able to find some time to make some comics this week! Here they are:

Other than this, I spent quite a bit of time working on a non-fiction essay for my creative writing class. When it’s done, I’ll share it here! But it’s not done yet, and I won’t be comfortable sharing it for quite a while. The assignment is due Tuesday, and the point is to turn in a rough draft which will be workshopped to hell and back, a process which I am thoroughly looking forward to!

Anyways, in honour of my recent re-bsession with calvin and hobbes, here’s an archive dive of “robbie and the bot” (aka my obvious homage to calvin and hobbes) to round out this update:

Have a great week! Thanks for reading.
