GoGo Weekly May 30th, 2021

This week, when it came time to draw, the only thing I wanted to draw was food- I was VERY HUNGRY. I tried to draw a few other ideas for the ‘let’s draw’ but none of them panned out because I had food on the brain. I finally decided just to draw food.

At the behest of my cloudscape buddies here in Vancouver, I also spent some time putting together a bit of a tutorial on how to utilize the LiDar camera on an ipad to make quick and easy 3D models for use in drawing software (so you don’t have to sketch out backgrounds every time from scratch). Even if you aren’t a digital artist, I think it’s a pretty interesting topic. Check it out!

Other than that, I’m STILL waiting on proofs for the GoGoMachRocketSheep comic strip collection from the cheaper printer. I got the proof back from the expensive (wayy to expensive in my opinion) printer and it looks exactly as I had hoped it would! So we’ll see what happens with the other one.

I can’t remember if I posted this video or not in last week’s update, so I’ll post it one more time here! I’m hoping to, on occasion and as schedules allow, do some live-streaming where I pick a character, draw it once from reference, and then spend as long as I can stomach trying to draw it over and over again until I master the proportions and can draw it from memory. Check it out if you want!

I think that’s all I got for this week. I had a big paper due for my class so most of my free time (…when I wasn’t making three youtube videos) was spent working on that.

See you next week!

GoGo Weekly May 23rd 2021

Oops, it turns out that I forgot to upload a weekly update last week! Last week was pretty crazy-busy, so I’m not surprised.

Today’s video for drawing along is about BIRDS! Follow along and draw all of the birds you see in the image above! or draw your own birds- birds are great. For Hard Mode I tried something a bit different, I turned it into a colouring sheet. You can download a white-background version to print off, or a transparent .png version to drop into your favourite drawing software!

This is the White background .JPG
This is the transparent Background .png!

Other then that, a couple projects I have on the go at varying stages of completion are (1) the GoGoMachRocketSheep comic strip PRINT collection and (2) the Space Chuck choose-your-own-adventure book!

On (1) I’m just waiting for a couple printing companies to get me proofs- Lulu (who I used to get everything printed through) has gotten VERY expensive. IngramSpark (who I had recommended to me) is cheaper to get printed after an initial set up fee. We’ll see which has the better quality.

On (2) I’ve just started, and that won’t be done for a long time. I’m having an ABSOLUTE BLAST writing it though! I used to DM tabletop roleplaying games, and best I can describe it, writing a choose-your-own-adventure feels very similar to DMing a game, except I can actually make the plot happen without people intentionally sabotaging it. ha!

Thanks for reading! If you watch these videos, consider subscribing on youtube (if you haven’t already). Thanks!

Go Go Weekly: May 10th, 2021

I only got around to making one comic strip this week, but I still managed to stay pretty busy.

My class is now in full swing.  I’ve read about 350 pages of history and theology and I’ve got about another 700 pages left to go.  When my brain gets occupied with being busy, one of two things happen:  My tired brain comes up with amazing comic ideas without even having to try, OR (more likely) I don’t have the energy to come up with anything worth drawing.  The above offering is the one comic idea that came to me- the missing four are reflective of the second tired-brain option. BUT! I still wanted to draw, even though I had no ideas…. and, to that end, I’ve started drawing COLOURING SHEETS for my kids to work on!

This is my new favourite artistic endeavour… It requires EXACTLY 0% brain power to make, and it has the added bonus of giving my kids something to do!  Not only that, I think they’ll bind up quite nicely/easily to make a fun colouring book to sell some day when we’re allowed to table at conventions again! They are inspired by a comic i made a few weeks ago about how I think coloring pages are dumb, and then I had friends tell me “I’d color that.” So here we are!

This last week, I also did a “how to make a repeating ribbon brush” tutorial! In Clip Studio. I don’t know how to do it in Photoshop but I guess I could figure that out if I were ever tempted to use photoshop again (I won’t be- clip studio for life!)

Thanks for reading! See you next week.
