Space is so cool, both the science fiction/fantasy and the real deal are so inspiring and awesome. When I got to go to NASA in Houston, it was such a cool experience, seeing all the rockets and space suits. I was really sick and a bit delirious, but walking into the hangar with the Saturn v rocket on its side and seeing how massive it was (even in its state of deterioration) it was inspiring. Of course, seeing an x wing pull an e-break turn to kill some tie fighters is pretty inspiring too. I’m equally inspired by both, because I’m what you’d call “easy to amuse.” I will say this though: space failures are way more impressive in reality than they are in fantasy. When a Sci fi movie fails, nobody’s happy. When a billion dollar mission fails because somebody missed a decimal point, well, that’ll make you ponder existence. space is hard.
The twenty first instalment! I’ve been having some fun sketching on my phone (which is why i bought the Note III as opposed to a newer iphone in the fall). At first, I wasn’t really stoked about it; while it has the same tech as my surface pro, it doesn’t have the apps or the screen size to make it easy to draw on it, and I hadn’t really used it for a long time. BUT! Now, i’ve realized, it’s just kinda fun to doodle on it, so that’s what i’ve been doing! You can see those sketches HERE if you wanna.
The nineteenth instalment! How fun. ALSO- it’s family day, here in BC! WOO HOO! FAMILY!
This last weekend, we had a youth event called “the plunge”. Basically, we play a bunch of games, eat a lot of pizza, rent a pool, get slurpees, good times. Normally, it is a ski trip as well, but because there ain’t no dang’ed snow, skiing would be difficult. this is our third time doing the plunge, the first time without skiing… and I think it is the most tired i’ve actually ever been, even without the all nighter and the skiing! Which confirms what i’ve suspected: i’m getting older.
If you have tumblr and want to see my sketchin’s, head on over to robshauf.tumblr.com! i used to post my old charlie and the ghost comics on tumblr, and stopped to move over to wordpress.
it’s weird… I have a phobia of posting anything on this “charlie and the ghost” site that isn’t charlie and the ghost. It’s like… I have a way easier time sketching on the side of a notebook than i do in a sketchbook. It’s the same kind of thing. So! I will post my sketches on tumblr, because it isn’t here. haha!
Ah, nothing like a little exposition. Next week’s update is going to have a LOT of drawing. I’m excited to draw it for yah!
This week is going to be crazy. Crazy in a good way, but crazy none-the-less.
I’m a little sleepy, so I think i’ll skip the “written update” this week. To be honest, not a whole lot new has been happening anyway! On the art front, I miss drawing every day… but on the “i’m a dad and have a full time job” front, doing it like this sure allows me to have more time for that stuff.
At the encouragement of my brother, I might do a bunch of mini-comics next. They may or may not be posted here… I haven’t decided yet. We’ll see!!!! 😀
of course, thanks to the magic of the internet, this comic won’t be posted until monday morning at 9am… EVEN THOUGH, as i type this, it is monday morning at 1pm! YIKES.
So I watched “deep impact” as I was drawing this. There are so many things about this movie that i just straight up don’t understand. Like! Why was it made? who was it’s target demographic? Why on earth did they gloss over the whole “every nuke on earth didn’t work against the comet, but apparently the four nukes left on the space ship worked fine and dandy?” was the non-existent emotion of the sacrifice made by the crew of the spaceship “messiah” (i’m not kidding) supposed to be a bait-and-switch of suspended disbelief?
edit- oops, i somehow managed to post the second page of this update twice instead of posting the first page! Here it is fixed.
Hybrids, eh? better on gas mileage, and durable to boot.
I love the sci fi comic makin! much fun, much fun indeed! one strange problem i am running into that i never had before is this: once every couple of weeks, i need to click the “ALL the space chucks” page and read through the archive to remember details i don’t have written down in the overview. man oh man!
