“recommended” ≠ “unnecessary”

cge010So, i’ve had these annoying little bouts of vertigo for a few years.  I’ve gone to doctors, and i’ve gone to specialists.  I’ve gotten ultrasounds and cat scans and i’ve seen specialists, all of them trying to figure out why this is happening.  They determined that It could be an ear pressure thing due to sinusitis, which isn’t that big of a deal, it’s just very annoying.  Now, i’m sort of used to it.  BUT!

We’re at the optometrist, getting glasses to replace my 5+ year old glasses.  The optometrist thinks its odd that i can see better out of my OLD glasses, and the optician takes a little tool and measures the curve of the lenses on my current glasses.  Apparently, it is common and possible and recommended that these curves are the same… But!  my lenses each had a very different curvature.  The possible result of this is: discomfort, dizziness, disorientation.

So it’s nice that I have that all figured out.  Lesson learned:  Get eyes checked on the recommended schedule.

Hello, hello! (Ola!)

one of the things I keep running into with this website lay-out is that I draw this comic on a full 22 inch (ish) screen, and then when you look at it on your monitor, you don’t really get to see much of anything.  I was just talking to a buddy of mine about this… I think this morning’s comic is an example of me not really thinking that through.  Ah well, it’ll look good in print.
Speaking of print!  I am really happy with how the books turned out.  When I was going to do the entire-self-publishing option (printing, binding, everything myself) the book was literally half as big…  Kind of like a novel.  The comics were pretty comparable to how large they show up on the website, but now with Lulu taking care of the printing, I am really happy with how large the art work is! If anyone is interested, the reason I went to a service like Lulu to get it printed is because, while I am pretty happy with how the 100% self publishing, self printing, self binding book turned out, I would feel pretty guilty charging people any amount of money for it…  Because this:  It feels good, but it looks like a craft.  It looks like something you make at school in grade five, even though it will probably last forever.  Lulu, on the other hand, makes a pretty good looking, quality book.  $20 may seem a bit pricey, but it’s 400 comics!  And they’re JUST A DELIGHT.  I’ve ordered a bunch, if people get sick of website stuff, live locally, and want a copy but don’t have a credit card or just are intensely afraid of having your personal information out there, talk to me personally or email me or something and i’ll make sure to get one in your hand.  I’m really stoked on how the book turned out, and I think you’ll like it.
Thanks to everyone asking about my vertigo!  I think it is getting better, I had a day off yesterday which consisted of me sleeping in until 9:00 am, watching scrubs and sleeping until 12:00, drawing the comic, and then sleeping from 1:00 until about 5:00.  Scrubs is so good, and cause i’ve seen it so many times, I can “watch it in my sleep”, and not really miss a whole lot.  Kinda strange.  Anyways!  Hope everyone has a good day!
