Or, if you prefer text, and not the sort of strange infographic thing I made:
Storytelling is a strange thing. Is a story still true if it gets a little better with each telling? Is it dishonest to only try and tell the BEST version of the story? The most moving? The most convincing? A church I went to for a while ended each service with the tagline: “TELL GOD’S STORY.” I wonder… which parts did they have in mind? The ‘good’ parts? the parts that are… problematic? They likely meant the parts that will help people. But those parts aren’t the only parts of God’s story. Who’s to say what gets cut? There are confusing parts. There are hurtful, violent parts. Do they want me to tell the whole story? Or just the neat and tidy, editorialized, bullet-pointed GOSPEL? Complexity made easier to swallow? It makes me choke. God’s story is not mine to massage.
I might make this type of thing from time to time, hope you don’t mind. I’m enjoying my break from video/comic strip making! It has certainly been the creative boost I was craving. I’m also enjoying THREADS so if you’re on that, find me!
