After the summer off of making comic strips and art videos, we’re back! With art videos anyways.
I wanted to take the summer off of making comics. I MEANT to take the summer TOTALLY off from making comics, but I got inspired and made three short comic stories instead… One about social media, One about hymn lyrics, and One about scientists. Give them a read if you’d like! Writing and illustrating a short story is a whole different ball game from drawing four panels every day, and I really enjoy it.
It would be more accurate to say I ended up taking a break from making daily joke comic strips for the summer. I had hoped the break would give me some perspective as to WHY I make comics. It would be nice if I had discovered that my cartooning was for sheer personal enjoyment, but it isn’t, and in my case, I don’t think making comic strips will ever will be for that pure of a reason. The most honest answer for why I make comic strips consists of these parts:
- I enjoy it
- I enjoy knowing people read something I’ve written
- It fits into my schedule
And those three points is the whole of it. It’s equal parts enjoyment, attention, and convenience. As long as I keep those reasons in that order, I think it’s probably fine. There is one other reason that I suspect I make comics, but I’ll leave that until the end of this post.
Anyways, I actually did make a bunch of comics this last week. I wanted to get back in the swing of it before school started up again. Here they are:

Did you catch the reference in the last comic strip as to why I think I make comic strips? It’s to greek mythology, so it may not be immediately obvious. One of my favourite stories in greek mythology is that of Narcissus, who fell in love with his own reflection and either a) died of depression because it was a reflection that he couldn’t touch or b) fell into the water and drowned. I like the ‘b’ version a bit better. I think I’ve got narcissistic tendencies sometimes, and there’s probably a bit of that wrapped into why I make comic strips as well.
Thanks so much for reading! We’ll see yah next time! 😀
