I made the above-comic for Saint Thomas More’s literary magazine, in media res. It’s in the ‘decay’ issue, which isn’t online quite yet, but should be shortly. It was fun to make.
When life gets busy and I don’t have time to make comics, it can feel like I’m failing somehow. Creatively expressing myself has been a high value of mine for as long as I can remember so I suppose that feeling shouldn’t come as a surprise. For years, I’ve wrestled with a tendency towards valuing sheer quantity of creative expression over the essential quality of my creative expression. I’ve been confronted with the limitations of that disordering so many times that it feels like I’ll never get it right. Although, as I get older, the need to invert that order is on my mind more and more frequently, so maybe that’s a step in the right direction.
Isn’t it amazing what decay makes possible?
