I really like these Space Chuck stories. I gotta say, one thing I would change were I to re-write this story is the optimism of VR being a thing that would make people scattered across the galaxy feel like they are still connected. Post-two-years-of-pandemic-and-isolation, I can safely say that no matter how good VR is, if it’s a headset, it will NEVER substitute for proper in-person social interaction. But scifi is allowed to dream, so it’s all good. I just think that’s the one area we’ve all had a bit of experience with, and speaking for myself, I would prefer not to have it as a part of our future.
