GoGo Weekly: Jan 16th, 2022

This week, as per my daughter’s request, we’re drawing PLANTS! Well, to be specific, I think she wanted me to draw FLOWERS, but PLANTS is a close enough topic! Draw along and send me your drawings, I’d love to see ’em! (email: gogomachrocketsheep@gmail.com )

This week! Oh man, this last week, I got to do SO much drawing, and that is because I got to do an artist in residency at my daughter’s school! That means I got to do a bunch of drawings and illustrations with classes of kids from kindergarten up to grade 5 every day as long as school was in. It was a LOT of fun! Basically I got to do guided drawings for most of the classes. The younger the kids got, the more art games we’d play (draw along, and guess what we’re drawing). The older they got, the more we got to talk about art and creativity, about the techniques and whatnot. It was an absolute blast! If it turns out I’m allowed to post a video about it publicly, I will! otherwise, you’ll just have to take my word for it. It was an amazing experience and I’d love to do it again some time.

That kept me very busy. I lost my voice nearly every day- I’m not used to talking loudly so a whole room can hear for 6 hrs a day! Then I tried to fit my normal work in on the evenings or the early mornings. Needless to say I didn’t have much left in the tank for creative thinking, but it was awesome regardless.

One thing that cloudscape got up too lately is a prompt-based drawing challenge on their discord. At the school I had some time to kill during lunch and recess, so here’s what I put together for those challenges:

The prompt for this one was “Pocket”. Whenever I think of pockets, I think of cargo pants.
The prompt for this one was “Ritual”. I was going to go a lot darker with it, like make it all creepy and look like there was some ritual involved in the summoning of a cup of coffee or something, but then I remembered i was at an elementary school and I didn’t wanna creep anyone out.
The prompt for this one was fruit. Aaaand yeah, this ain’t so far off from the truth.
This prompt was “Dance” and I gotta say, I think it’s pretty funny. I mean, who taught those robots how to do the robot?
This prompt is actually two prompts combined: “Messy” and “Strength”. I’ll give you points if you know who it is supposed to be! There are hints.

Thanks so much for stickin’ with me, reading these posts and whatnot! I’m currently working my way through a book on writing short stories. It’s a GREAT read. Once I’m done that, I’ll likely have more comics to post as a part of these weekly updates.
